A Deliberative Poll for CA's Future :: Summer 2011

Partner Profile: Public Policy Institute of California

Today, California is struggling with historic challenges. Our future depends on our ability to work together on solutions. Our state will emerge from this difficult time, as it has before, but it can emerge much stronger with the sustained, informed involvement of its residents.

What's Next California is a step in the right direction. It has the potential to engage our state in a conversation and help us reach a better understanding of our common perceptions as well as our disagreements. This process won't solve the problems, but we hope it will offer feedback that should be important to everyone working to improve our state.

The Public Policy Institute of California has worked on many of the issues that are important for the state's future, from the environment and the economy to our schools, universities, and health and human service programs. We've also conducted large scale public opinion surveys, engaged in independent research, and organized public events that seek to enrich the state's discussion about how government can be most effective in responding to problems and preparing for the future.

We are a nonpartisan, independent, nonprofit organization that does not take or support positions on any ballot measure or on any local, state, or federal legislation. We also do not support, endorse, or oppose any political parties or candidates for public office. Our mission is to inform and improve public policy. Our vision is to provide essential information and frame policy debates to shape a better future for California.

We are grateful for the opportunity to participate with other organizations around the state in What's Next California. We hope that this endeavor will help to raise the voices of Californians about the future of their state.

Mark Baldassare is the President and CEO of the Public Policy Institute of California.
